Pizza sauce recipe | Homemade pizza sauce recipe is a tomato & herb based thick sauce made with blanched tomatoes, that’s basically used as spread. For making any kind of pizza this sauce is used prior to topping and baking pizza.
It’s very easy and quick recipe that uses no mystry ingredients. And I assure you that it makes your homemade pizza taste so much better. Moreover you know what exactly goes into your food.

The recipe of homemade pizza sauce is such a versatile recipe that it can be used in making pasta, spaghetti or lasagne or bread pizza.

First and foremost please use red and ripe tomatoes as the colour of pizza sauce depends majorly on this.
You may adjust the sweet and spice factor according to your family’s preferences.
The texture to my pizza sauce is slightly chunky as we like this way. If you wish to make it smooth just pulse it in the mixer.
So let’s jump into the kitchen making the best ever pizza sauce.
Step by step instructions and pictorial discription to make pizza sauce recipe
Let’s begin with blanching the tomatoes first. Clean wash and put a cross mark on the base of all tomatoes. This will help to peel the tomatoes easily.
Fill a wide pan with enough water and add slitted tomatoes to it. Once the water comes to a rolling boil, lower the flame and cover and cook tomatoes till it softens. It will take nearly 5 minutes.
Switch off the flame and let the tomatoes cool completely. Reserve the water in which you have blanched tomatoes for making curries or gravies.
Peel the tomatoes and roughly chop them into chunks with knife and discard the seeds.
If you wish to have your pizza sauce smooth, at this stage pulse it in the mixer. Keep it aside.
Next heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add crushed garlic and chillies. Saute it for a while till the raw smell of garlic goes away.
To this add in the chopped onion, add some salt to help the onion cook faster and cook till slightly brown.
Mix in the blanched tomatoes. Cook them well. Add oregano, chilli flakes, red chilli powder, sugar and tomato sauce (optional).
Cover and cook for few more minutes till the sauce becomes thick. Test the taste and adjust the spices accordingly. In the last, tear few basil leaves roughly and add it into pizza sauce.
Cool and store in a glass jar under refrigeration. It stays good for almost a week.
