Mango Vanilla Panna cotta | Mango Pudding, What is Panna cotta?

Panna cotta dessert is made from warming cream just enough to dissolve sugar and agar agar. It is served chilled, and can be made ahead and refrigerated.

Panna cotta can be made using milk that makes it very light and soft pudding paired with any fruit puree, or a rich, thick pudding using heavy cream.

Is it difficult to make Mango Vanilla Panna cotta | Mango Pudding at home?

Not at all. If you think it’s complicated, let me tell you, it’s not.

In conclusion, there are very few steps in the making of panna cotta, and the only way you can screw up is if you don’t dissolve the agar agar properly.

Step by step instructions and pictorial presentation to make Mango Vanilla Panna cotta

To make puree :

First peel and chop mangoes then cut them into pieces. After that,  blend this to make puree. Keep it aside.

 

To dissolve agar agar

Take a bowl, add around 4 tbsp hot water and sprinkle 2 tsp agar agar over it. Let it sit for a while and stir it to combine well.

This dissolved agar agar will be divided into equal quantity (1 tsp each) for both layers.

 

To make Mango layer

In a pan combine mango puree and sugar. Switch on the flame and bring it to a gentle boil.

Add 1 tsp dissolved agar agar and stir continuously with a wired whisk. Add lemon juice and switch off the flame. Let it cool down.

Place a big kitchen towel on a tray. Arrange the serving glass in a way so that it gets tilted slightly.

Or you can set up the glasses in bowls so that it’s tilted slightly.

Pour in prepared mango mixture till it reaches the rim of the glass. Refrigerate it for 4 to 5 hours till it sets completely.

 

To make Vanilla layer

Mix milk and sugar in a pan, keep it on the stove top and bring it to a gentle simmer. To this add cream and lower the flame. Keep stirring it with wired whisk at regular intervals.

Next, add remaining diluted 1tsp agar agar and stir to combine well. Add vanilla essence, switch off the flame. Let it cool.

 

Glasses set with mango layer

 

Now remove the glasses (with set mango layer) and gently pour this milk cream mixture over mango layer.

Set it in the refrigerator for 4 hours. Remove and serve with mango chunks, fresh berry and mint leaves.

Notes :

1. This pannacotta tastes great when paired with fresh fruits like strawberries, cherries and peaches also

2. Panna cotta is gluten free in its simple form. It’s also easily adaptable with a few easy dairy replacements and can be made vegan also.

Ingredients

For mango layer

Instructions

    I’m in the U.S. and had never heard of agar agar. When I look it up, it sounds like it’s form of gelatin. Can I substitute the same amounts for unflavored gelatin for the agar agar? Thanks.
