A one pot meal American Chop suey Recipe | Veg American Chop suey | Chop suey Recipe is a fusion Chinese recipe that is made in India and served in many restaurants and even many road side eateries offer this on their menu.
The other Chinese dishes that are in popular demand are Veg Manchurian & Chinese veg fried rice.
The sauce for veg American Chop tangy, sweet and spicy at the same time. It tastes so good with all the crunchy vegetables and boiled/fried noodles.
This is the best way to feed all the vegetables to your kids or to even adults, who otherwise don’t prefer to eat in normal course.
This delicious snack is quite popular with both kids and adults alike. American Chop suey can be made with both boiled noodles and Fried, crispy crunchy noodles.
In this recipe I have shared the method of making American Chop suey my way in tomato based gravy and with boiled noodles version.
We somehow like to avoid fried things wherever we can, so I have come up with my own version of making chop suey.

Ingredients required to make veg American chop suey recipe
The recipe to make chop suey is very versatile in regards to sauces and vegetables used.
The vegetables I have used here are cabbage, carrots, baby corn, bell peppers, mushrooms, sweet corn, french beans and broccoli. You can also add some moong sprouts and paneer or tofu if you want.
And the sauces used here are tomato ketchup & sweet red chilli sauce. If you wish you could add soya sauce, red chilli sauce and green chilli sauce also.
Serve veg American Chop suey with toasted garlic bread as a snack or dinner or as brunch option.
How to make veg American chop suey recipe with step by step instructions and pictorial presentation
To begin with shred or finely chop the veggies. Keep this aside.
To make boiled noodles
In a pot boil 3/4 cup water. Once it starts to boil add noodles and masala sachet.
Once noodles are cooked, strain the excess water if any. Keep it aside to cool.
To make Chop suey sauce
Pressure cook tomatoes with minimal water upto 3 whistles.
Once the pressure is released, cool it and remove the skin. Reserve the water for later use.
Grind it in mixer to make puree. Keep it aside.
Next take a pan add oil. Once heated, add finely chopped ginger, garlic saute it.
Then add onions and all of the above mentioned vegetables one by one mentioned in the list.
Saute on high flame so that it gets cooked yet retains its crispness.
Season with salt and pepper. Add soya sauce, red chilli sauce, vinegar, tomato ketchup and sugar.
Mix it well. Then add prepared tomato puree too. Bring it to a boil.
To this add leftover boiled tomato water that we reserved to use later on. Cook this for a while.
Then add dissolved cornflour, stir well and let it simmer for a while. Taste the test and adjust the seasonings and sauces accordingly.
Your Chop suey is ready. Garnish with spring onion greens.
Serve hot this with fried noodles (optional) and buttered garlic bread.
Notes
1. You could serve this American Chop suey over the bed of crispy fried noodles. I haven’t as my family prefers that way.
2. Adjust the heat level as per your family’s liking. We like to have this medium spicy with hint of mild sweetness.

Ingredients
For noodles
- Maggi masala noodles smallest pack 1
- Water 3/4 cup
For tomato puree
- Red ripe tomatoes 2 medium size
For American Chop suey Sauce
- 2 tbsp Oil 2 tbsp
- ½ inch Ginger finely chopped
- 4 cloves Garlic cloves
- ½ cup shredded cabbage
- ½ cup carrot sliced lengthwise
- ⅓ cup thinly sliced french beans
- ⅓ cup thinly sliced bell peppers
- ½ cup sliced mushrooms
- ⅓ cup thinly sliced baby corn
- ½ cup chopped onions
Sauces
- 1 tsp Dark Soya sauce
- 1 tsp Red chili sauce
- ½ tsp Schezwan sauce
- 2 tbsp Tomato ketchup
- ½ tsp Vinegar
- 1 tbsp Sugar or as per taste
- ½ tsp Black pepper powder
- salt as required
For Corn Starch Paste
- 2 tbsp Corn flour
- 2 tbsp Water 2
For Garnish
- 2 tbsp Chopped spring onion greens
- Garlic bread to serve with
