Traditional middle eastern style creamy milk pudding Mahalabia Dessert Recipe | Muhallebi |Muhalabi is made using few handy ingredients easily available from your pantry. Moreover it’s eggless, easy and quick to make, and tastes so yummy.
Mahalabia Dessert recipe | Muhallebi | Middle Eastern Milk Pudding is known by many names with different pronunciation such as Muhalabi, Mahlebieh, Muhallebi, Mahalebi or Mohallabieh.
The main ingredients used to make this delicious desserts are milk, sugar, cornflour/rice flour, Rooh afza/Rose sharbat and cream.
What should be infused to make Mahalabia Dessert Recipe?
It’s generally infused with Rose water/ rose syrup or orange blossom water and served with garnish of chopped pistachios. I came across this interesting recipe from here.
It has a slightly jiggly texture and is served cold. Therefore this can be a great summer cooler with different flavors like vanilla, cardamom, chocolate, rose and orange blossom water.

Mahalabia Dessert a very stylish and pretty dessert
Mahalabia Dessert|Muhallebi|Middle Eastern Milk Pudding looks so pretty and sounds very fancy, like you have spent hours churning out this beautiful looking dessert, which otherwise is not.
A perfect Ramadan treat, this recipe is a quick fix dessert when you run out of time or when you have unexpected guests.
For instance, this recipe is quite similar to panacotta but much lighter, similarly it doesn’t use any setting agent gelatin/agar agar. The thickening agent used here in this recipe is cornflour or rice flour.
if you like milk based puddings, you’re sure going to love this one.
So let’s get started.
Recipe card :
- To make milk pudding:
- Milk ½ liters
- Sugar 3 tbsp
- Corn Flour 3 tbsp
- Rose water 1 tsp
- To make Rose cream:
- Fresh Cream 4 tbsp
- Rose Syrup 4 tbsp
- To make Rose toppings:
- Water ¼ cup
- Corn flour 2 tbsp
- Rose syrup 2 tsp
- Chopped pistachios 10
- Piping bag 1
- To make milk pudding
- Take ½ liter or 500 ml milk.
- Mix in cornflour and whisk it properly so that no lumps remain.
- Now put on the flame and keep this milk cornflour mixture on stove and stir continuously.
- Add sugar and keep the flame on low.
- Next mix rose water.
- Meanwhile continue to stir the mixture, until the milk is thickened.
- Once thickened take it out in a bowl.
- Your milk pudding is ready.
- To make rose cream
- Mix rose syrup with fresh cream in a bowl. In to this mix half of the milk pudding made earlier.
- In this way, the pudding will have two parts, one white and another pink.
- To make rose pudding
- In a bowl take room temperature water and add corn flour to it. Mix in the rose syrup in it and transfer it to the pan. Keep this on stove on medium to low flame.
- keep stirring it until it becomes thick.
- Remove from the flame and let it cool down.
- Now fill it in the piping bag.
- Serving Suggetions :
- Take a glass and put some chopped pistachios in the bottom.
- Now add 2 spoons of pink cream on it.
- Put white pudding over pink cream
- Now cut the corner of the piping bag and make the desired design for topping.
- Decorate it with sliced pistachios and refrigerate for 2 hours.
Process to make Mahalabia Dessert Recipe
To make milk pudding
Take 1/2 liter or 500 ml milk. Mix in cornflour and whisk it properly so that no lumps remain.
After that put on the flame and keep this milk cornflour mixture on stove and stir continuously. Add sugar and keep the flame on low.
Next mix rose water. Meanwhile continue to stir the mixture, until the milk is thickened.
Once thickened take it out in a bowl. Your milk pudding is ready.
To make rose cream
Mix rose syrup with fresh cream in a bowl. In to this mix half of the milk pudding made earlier.
In this way, the pudding will have two parts, one white and another pink.
To make rose pudding
In a bowl take room temperature water and add corn flour to it. Mix in the rose syrup and transfer it to the pan. Keep this on stove on medium to low flame.
keep stirring it until it becomes thick. Remove from the flame and let it cool down.
Now fill it in the piping bag.
Serving Suggetions :
Take a glass and put some chopped pistachios in the bottom.

Or
After adding pistachios at the base pour white cream at the base and top it with pink cream.
Now cut the corner of the piping bag and make the desired pattern/design for topping.
After that decorate it with sliced pistachios and refrigerate for 2 hours.
Remove and serve cold.
My tip :
Cornflour should always be diluted with cold / room temperature milk or water.
