Sol Kadi with Kokum Sorbet| How to make Sol Kadhi with Kokum Sorbet | Traditional Summer Cooler Sol Kadi recipe|

My take on traditional & famous recipe from Goan, Konkan and Malvan region, Sol Kadi with Kokum Sorbet is an integral part of this cuisine. It’s a vegan and gluten-free drink.

A very famous drink Sol kadi is usually served with main meals. The main ingredients to make this delicious cooler are coconut milk and Kokum sharbat/Kokum juice.

Kokum sorbet

Komum sorbet reminds me of ice gola/slush, which we used to have in our childhood, licking juicy syrupy crushed ice on stick, drizzled with different flavours of summer juices like kala khatta, kairi panna, orange and khus to name a few.

Medley of flavours :

The Sol Kadi is full of spicy, sweet, tangy and sour flavours. This medley of flavours creates music inside your mouth.  it’s known as summer coolant too.

Easy to make at home Sol kadi with Kokum sorbet :

I have served Sol Kadi with Kokum Sorbet which reminds me of ice Gola/slush.

You can make this wonderful drink easily in  your kitchen rather than buying it readymade from the stores.

It would quench your thirst during summers and would keep you cool.

I have shared homemade kokum sharbat recipe here.

Last but not the least, you may like to try my other summer cooler recipes –

Procedure to make kokum sharbat and sorbet :

Soak the kokum pods in warm water for 30 to 45 minutes so that it fluffs up nicely to extract the juices.

Squeeze juices from Kokum pods, drain the pods and retain the warm water with the extract in it.

To make kokum sorbet :

In a bowl add 2 to 3 spoons of Kokum concentrate that we made earlier. Dilute it with 1+1/2 cups of water.

Add salt, sugar, and cumin powder. Transfer this to a metal/steel container or ice cubes tray. Place this in freezer for 8 hours.
Once it’s partially set, scoop it out with ice cream scooper/spoon, and place 2 scoops in each glass. Kokum sorbet is ready.

  12. ARCHANA

Looks yummy Lata. We love sol kadhi and make it without coconut milk too. Of course, it is used as an appetizer but more as an accompaniment with rice. It is considered to be an antacid. Lovely share.

    1. Lata Lala

True Archana it’s used both the ways. We live in the form of Kadhi during peak summers.
      Thank you.
