Air Fryer Crispy Butter Beans is a delicious high protein snack recipe that is vegan and gluten-free, made using Butter beans also known as Fava beans or Lima beans or Rangooni vaal smeared with wonderful mix of spices along with olive oil.
It takes juat 15 minutes, if you already have canned or boiled Butter beans on your hand. You will love these crispy, cruncy, hard to resist plant-based protein snack.
What is the difference between Lima/Fava and Butter Beans?
Nothing. These are just the other names of Butter Beans. In Gujarati language its known as Rangooni vaal.
Air Fryer Crispy Butter Beans, why these are so loved?
Butter beans are quick to make with just little of pre preparation of soaking well ahead for 8 hours minimum, if you are using dry beans, then boiling in pressure cooker.
Because of it’s mild, creamy and buttery texture this is often used to make curry here in India.

High protein and high fiber snack
These butter beans are so easy to make. You need to just soak (if using dry beans), boil, drain, pat dry, toss with spices and olive oil. After that, roast them crispy in an Air fryer or oven.
Moreover, in this recipe, you can choose endless seasoning options from fresh to dry – oregano, mixed herbs, rosemary, thyme, chives, dill, sumac, coriander leaves etc.
However, I have used onion powder, garlic powder, salt, red chilli powder, chaat masala and taco seasoning as the spice mix for this recipe.
The result is a plant based, high-protein, high-fiber snack recipe that is a better alternative to readymade fried, ultra-processed snacks.

Air Fryer Crispy Butter Beans
Ingredients
Method
- To begin with, as i have used dry butter beans, we need to soak them for 8 hours atleast. After that rinse, pat dry on a kitchen towel.
- If you are using canned beans then just drain the liquid, rinse well and spread them on a kitchen towel. Pat dry and keep aside.
- Next, cook them in Pressure Cooker upto one or two whistles, till they have a bite, not over cooked, mushy or creamy.
- Or cook them in a open pot with boiling water. Check if they are done but have a bite.
- Add all the spices in the list of ingredients mentioned in the recipe card. Mix together with a spoon well.
- Now add olive oil and apply this all.over dried beans. Mix well till every butter bean is coated well with spices.
- Meanwhile, Preheat air fryer at 200°C for 3 minutes. After that, spread the marinated butter beans in single layer, making sure not overlapping.
- Set the timer for 15 minutes, make sure to shake the basket after 7 minutes. Towards the end, you will notice that the skin of the beans is getting crisp and they shrink in size.
- Voilà, your delicious air fryer butter beans snack is ready to serve. Pair it with Dhania Pudina Chutney and enjoy.....

Step by step instructions and pictorial presentation to make Air Fryer Crispy Butter Beans
Prep the butter beans
To begin with, as i have used dry butter beans, we need to soak them for 8 hours atleast. After that rinse, pat dry on a kitchen towel.

Notes
1. To make the butter beans crispy, make sure the beans are pat dried completely before you apply seasonings and oil on it.
2. Place the seasoned butter beans in single layer in the air fryer basket, so that they are cook evenly.
3. For even cooking of beans, make sure to shake the basket half way through.
4. You can serve them as topping for your salads or as companion to your soups.
5. If not vegan, you can sprinkle cheese towards the end to serve to your kiddos.
How to store leftovers?
Let me assure, there won’t be any, but in case, these can be stored in an airtight container for upto two days in the fridge.
When re using, just Air fry again for a couple of minutes to crisp them up before serving.
