Banana Appam | Whole Wheat Banana Paniyaram is a Vegan South Indian delicacy prepared in form of sweet dumplings using ripe bananas, wheat flour, rice flour, jaggery, coconut, bananas, cardamom powder and fennel seeds in a special appe pan known as ebilskiver pan.
Serve this as Snack, breakfast or as a dessert. This recipe won’t disappoint you.
What is Appe/Paniyaram in Banana Appam | Whole Wheat Banana Paniyaram ?
As mentioned above, Appe/Paniyaram is the name of the pan which is also known as ebilskiver pan.

So when some dish is made in that pan its known as Appe/Paniyaram which can be made in both savory or sweet way.
Here, today I am sharing the sweet version of appe which is similar to “Nei Appam” (ghee-based) or Neyyappam, served as Prasad in temples in South India. However, I have used oil replacing ghee to grease the cavities.
In this recipe, the batter is cooked in a special molded pan with oil/ghee until golden brown, creating a soft, caramelized snack, a great way to use overripe bananas
The savory ones are either like these Instant Suji Appe or the more traditional one; made from scratch using basic dosa or idli batter which needs some fermentation.
