Ingredients
1cupmoong dal/ split moong beans
1/2tsphaldi/ turmeric powder
Salt to taste
1and 1/2 tbsp oil
1tspCumin/ jeera
1/2tspblack pepper powder
1/2tspRed chilli powder
1/2tspAmchur powder or chat masala
1Green chili finely chopped
Instructions
To begin with, wash the dal thrice and soak it in enough water for at least 1-2 hours. It helps to cook dal quickly.
Now heat a heavy bottom pan, add 3 cups of water. Bring it to a rolling boil. Add salt and turmeric powder.
Meanwhile drain the water from the soaked dal and add this to boiling water. Let it cook for few minutes on high flame.
Keep checking in between so that it doesn't get overcooked. It will take around 8-10 minutes.
Once it's done, check the dal by pressing in between thumb ans index finger. It shouldn't be mushy.
Now take off the heat and drain the excess water in colander.
For tempering
Heat oil in a non-stick kadai. Add cumin seeds. Once the cumin seeds start splutter , add green chilli and sauté for a minute.
Add the cooked churi dal and saute gently. Simultaneous, heat tawa/griddle. Now place this pan of cooked dal on it.
Lower the flame, cover and let it cook further to dry out the water content from dal completely.
Check and turn off the flame. To this sprinkle red chilli powder, black pepper powder and amchur powder.
In the last add lemon juice, test the taste, if required adjust the salt.
Garnish with coriander leaves, serve hot with Poori.
