What goes into Kachha Kela Matar ki Sabzi

As the name suggests this includes  kachha Kela means raw bananas,  and matar translates to green peas.

Here boiled raw bananas and green peas are tossed with some basic dry spice powders to make this simple sabzi. After that, garnish with fresh grated coconut and some coriander leaves. Finish it with drizzle of lemon and serve hot.

Pair this tasty kachhe kele aur  matar ki sabzi along with Sabut masoor dal , roti/chapati and Cucumber peanut raita  for a simple weekday lunch.

This delicious recipe can be served as side dish with dal rice, sambar rice or Kadhi chawal.

A unique combination of two vegetables

According to Healthline Green bananas contain a high amount of resistant starch and pectin, which have been linked to several health benefits.

Green bananas are high in many nutrients, including potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C.

Peas are the most nutritious vegetables and is good source of fiber and Vitamins A, K & C and potassium and magnesium  which keeps all of our body cells functioning properly.

 

Step by step instructions and pictorial presentation to make Kachha Kela Matar ki Sabzi | Raw Banana Green Peas stir fry

 

 

To begin with bring water to boil. Drop the green bananas with skin on. Let it par boil for around 5 minutes. Here we need green bananas that are partially cooked.

Let it cool. Remove the skin and cut it into around 1/2 inch roundels.

Next, take a non-stick pan. Heat oil, add some cumin/ sabut jeera. Once it crackle, add par boiled raw banana roundels.

Saute on high flame. Keep adjusting the flame from medium to high till banana change its colour to light brown.

Through out this sauteing process, please don’t cover the pan.
Add chopped green chili and boiled peas.

Add salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, dry mango/ amchur powder, garam masala powder, red chilli powder and mix well.

If required, sprinkle few splashes of water, cover and cook the Kela Matar ki Sabzi until all the spices get well coated.

Now add grated coconut. Saute for a while. Finally add the lemon juice and sprinkle chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with roti/chapati/fulka/paratha.

  • 1/2 Lemon juiced
  • Handful Fresh coriander leaves chopped
  • 1 Green chili chopped
  • 2 tsp Oil
