Matar Mushroom recipe | Mutter mushroom | Mushroom matar masala curry is vegan, gluten free, quite easy to make & simple. This is most preferred dish by vegetarians.
Matar Mushroom recipe | Mutter mushroom | Mushroom matar masala, what is it?
This curry is prepared by cooking green peas and sauteed mushroom in a delicious tomato-onion based gravy.
A creamy and spicy curry that is cooked in north indian style, with matar/mutter/green peas and mushrooms. This is vegan and gluten-free recipe.

Mushrooms in hindi are called khumb or Dhingri, so it’s also known as khumb matar ki sabzi or Dhingri matar in many parts of india.
My family love mushrooms in any form. Though not everyone like the taste of mushrooms, but if it is cooked in right way or added with any other vegetable, i am sure it would taste better.
Mushrooms are heathy and nutritious
Like other vegetables mushrooms also should be included in daily cooking often. I always make it a point to include mushrooms in various ways by cooking it in different styles.
Dietary options of Matar Mushroom recipe | Mutter mushroom | Mushroom matar masala :
The recipe i have shared is vegan and gluten-free. Please feel free to use normal fresh cream or full fat milk instead of coconut milk cream.
Or you may use cashew nuts paste instead of cream also.
Moreover the proportions of mushrooms and matar/mutter/green peas can be tweaked to suit your requirements.
If you want to use more of matar and less of mushrooms, it’s fine.

Ingredients required to make Matar Mushroom recipe | Mutter mushroom | Mushroom matar masala
2 packs of Mushrooms
1 cup Green Peas Shelled
2 large onions grated
2 large Tomatoes
1 tsp ginger
8 cloves of garlic
2 green chillies
1 tsp black pepper powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp Haldi/ Turmeric powder
1 tsp Red chillies powder
1 tsp Kitchen king masala
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/4 cup coconut milk cream
1 tsp oil
Coriander leaves to garnish
Method for making Matar Mushroom recipe | Mutter mushroom | Mushroom matar masala
Heat a cooking vessel, add the sliced mushrooms and saute on high flame for few minutes. It will start to leave water.
Cook till water evoparates and mushrooms look a bit dry. Now add salt and black pepper powder to it. Saute for few minutes more.
Switch off the flame.
Set aside.
For making gravy :
In the same vessel, add a tsp of oil and add the bay leaf, cumin, & finely chopped onions.
Saute it till onions turn light brown. Mix the minced garlic, chillies and ginger paste and saute for 3 minutes on low medium flame.
Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, Salt, coriander powder and mix well. Next add kitchen king masala powder.
Now mix tomato puree and cook on low-medium flame for 7-8 mts or till oil separates. Put half glass of water, and bring to a boil.
To this add sauteed mushrooms and boiled peas. Simmer for 10-12 minutes or till everything is cooked and the desired curry consistency is achieved.
Sprinkle a pinch of ground garam masala powder and cream/milk and mix well.
Adjust salt, if required. While adding cream put the flame on low as otherwise cream would split.
Turn off flame. Take this out in a serving bowl, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with roti/chapati or rice.

- Then put a pinch of ground garam masala powder and cream/milk and mix well.
- Adjust salt, if required.
- While adding cream put the flame on low as otherwise cream would split.

- Take this out in a serving bowl, garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with Roti/chapati, or Rice.
Matar mushroom is our favorite dish in winters with hot chapatis. Looks so yummy.
