This traditional Thai style green papaya salad | Som Tam Salad is a delicious variety of salad that’s vegan, gluten free, no cook, dairy free made using green raw papaya as the main ingredient.
In addition to that peanuts, cucumbers and tomatoes are added along with some delicious mix of sweet & spicy sauce.

It seems I am on salad making spree. Yes you can say that as we all have started to relish various kinds of salads like Rajma/kidney beans salad, Sprouted moong/green gram salad, Waldorf salad with intresting twist and Kala chana salad.
This salad is a must try recipe as it turns out flavourful with sweet, spicy and tangy flavours and can be eaten any time of the day.
I was tempted to make this when a talented member of FB group, Ms. Rinku Khanna shared it. And we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
It also makes for an awesome snack or to eat between your meals.
In addition to that, this Thai Papaya Salad is ideal for lunch box option for those days when you wish to have some light yet delicious meal.
Just make sure to pack the dressing in a separate small glass bottle and mix it with salad just before you are ready to relish it.
Step by step instructions and pictorial presentation to make Thai style green papaya salad | Som Tam Salad
Wash and peel the raw green papaya, cut it into two halves. De seed it and grate it using a thick grater or shedder.
Keep it in the bowl filled with ice cold water.
Next, dry roast the peanuts, cool and coarse grind.
To make dressing
Now take a small bowl add lemon juice, brown sugar, pink salt, Sweet Chili sauce, Olive oil, chilly flakes. Mix it well.
Mince garlic and green chili and add it to the dressing. Combine it well.
To assemble
Take a big mixing bowl. To this add shredded Papaya, cucumber and tomato strips.
Add crushed peanuts, prepared dressing and gently combine it.
Lastly sprinkle black pepper and sprinkle some more peanuts
Mix it well.
Serve chilled.

Ingredients
- 1 small Green Papaya firm and small in size
- 1 Cucumber cut into thin strips
- 1 Tomato de-seeded cut into thin strips or use cherry tomatoes cut into halves
- 2 Garlic cloves
- 1 Green Chili
- 1 juiced lemon
- 2 tsp Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp Rock Salt
- 1 tsp Olive oil
- 2 tsp Sweet Chili sauce
- 1/2 cup coarse roasted peanuts
- 1/4 tsp Black pepper
- 1/4 tsp Chili flakes
Instructions
