Jal Jeera recipe | Jaljira Drink is a traditional Indian refreshing summer drink that is packed with nutrition and flavors. In Hindi, Indian language Jal means water & jeera translates to cumin.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp of cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp whole peppercorns
  • 1 tbsp black salt
  • 1 tsp chat masala
  • 1/8 tsp hing/Asafoetida
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves
  • 3/4 cup of coriander leaves
  • 1 small piece of Ginger
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • As required Chilled water and ice cubes

To garnish

  • Namkeen Boondi
  • 2 Lemon slices

Instructions

  • First of all dry roast the cumin in a pan on slow flame till it becomes fragrant. Remove and keep it aside.
  • In the same pan add whole peppercorns and dry roast it on slow flame till fragrant. Remove and keep aside to cool.
  • Pound the roasted cumin seeds, whole peppercorns, hing and black salt in a mortar and pestle and make a powder.
  • In a mixer jar add mint leaves, coriander leaves and ginger. Blend, add tamarind pulp and some water to make puree.
  • To this add powdered cumin, black pepper, pink salt, chat masala, lemon juice and some chilled water and grind it all well to form a smooth puree.
  • Transfer this to a big bowl.

To serve

  • While serving add some chilled water and some ice cubes to adjust the consistency.
  • Stir well and adjust salt, lemon juice and tamarind as per your taste. Serve chilled in a glass garnished with boondi and lemon slices.

Notes

1. Use fresh coriander and mint leaves for a fresh taste.
2. Don't add mint leaves more than suggested or otherwise the drink would tastes bitter.
3. Adjust all the spices mentioned as per your taste to make Jal jeera.
4. To make jal jira soda recipe, add equal quantity of water and soda
