Makhana aloo tikki | Lotus seed (Fox nut) patties | Upvaas ki tikki

Ingredients

  • Makhana / Lotus seeds/ Fox Nut 2 Cup
  • Boiled potatoes 4
  • Peanuts 4 tbsp
  • Black Salt as per taste
  • Chopped green chilies 2
  • Chopped Coriander handful
  • Roasted Cumin powder - 1 tsp
  • Black pepper powder 1 tsp
  • Rajgira flour 2 to 3 tsp
  • Oil for frying
  • For stuffing
  • Cashews 4
  • Almond 4
  • Raisins 6

Instructions

  • To begin with, heat a pan and dry roast the lotus seeds in it. After they are roasted, grind it to a coarse powder.
  • Dry roast peanuts and coarse grind it in mixer. Keep it aside.
  • Chop almonds, cashews and raisins in to small pieces for stuffing.
  • Next, mash the boiled potatoes.
  • Mix powdered makhana, Rajgira flour, crushed peanuts, coriander leaves, chopped chillies.
  • Add the salt and all other spices according to your taste. Mix it well. Divide the dough into equal portions.
  • Take one portion of makhana potato mix and flatten it like a disc, press it to make a well in the center.
  • Stuff chopped dry fruits into it and bring the edges closer to seal it.
  • Shape this into a round patty and roll it in between your palms to smoothen the edges. Similarly make rest of the tikkis.
  • Heat oil in a skillet or a heavy-bottomed pan over slow to medium flame and deep fry them until they turn golden brown.
  • Flip gently and cook from both the sides.
  • Serve the makhana tikki hot with chutney.

Notes

1. You may use buckwheat flour or Singhara atta instead of Rajgira flour for binding.
2. The choice of dry fruit stuffing is completely optional. You may use dry fruits of your choice.
