Ingredients
  • Whole wheat flour-1 cup
  • Ghee/clarified butter- 1 cup
  • Sugar- 1 cup
  • Water- 3 cups
  • Besan- 1 spoon (optional)
Instructions
  1. Heat 3 cups of water in a pan.
  2. (Quantity of water depends upon your preference of consistency of halwa. Some like it thick and some like it little of loose consistency. You may decrease the quantity of water to 2.5 cups for thick consistency)
  3. Add sugar and melt it properly. Once it starts boiling switch off the flame. Strain the mixture and keep it aside.
  4. Meanwhile heat ghee in a thick bottom pan/ kadhai and let it melt on low flame.
  5. To this add wheat flour. Keep stirring on low flame. Keep an eye on it and cook till it turns golden brown and aromatic.
  6. Now add the warm/hot sugar syrup slowly and gradually. Be careful while adding sugar syrup as the wheat flour and ghee mixture bubbles up and splutters a lot.
  7. Keep stirring it continuously on low heat till the sugar syrup is incorporated well with flour.
  8. A secret tip : At this stage add 1 spoon of besan/chickpeas flour, this will help binding the halwa well. (This is purely optional)
  9. Cook till everything comes together like a mass and the mixture starts releasing ghee on the sides of Kadhai.
  10. Kada prashad is ready. Garnish with chopped dry fruits and serve hot.
