Jackfruit Idli Recipe | Panasa idli is soft, flavourful, a tasty famous breakfast of coastal areas of Karnataka, made of ripe jackfruit, that is vegan and gluten free.

Ingredients
  • Rice Rava ½ cup
  • Ripe jackfruit/ panas / halasina hannu 1.25 cup
  • Coconut grated ½ cup
  • Jaggery ¼ cup
  • A pinch of Salt
  • Cardamom/Elaichi powdered 1 tsp
  • Ghee to grease idli moulds
Instructions
  1. Peel, de seed and chop jackfruit roughly.
  2. In a mixer, grind jackfruit flesh pieces and jaggery.
  3. Add very little water. Jaggery will leave water as you grind.
  4. Once it smoothens a bit, add grated coconut and elaichi.
  5. Add very very little water and grind to a smooth paste.
  6. Transfer the ground jackfruit puree into a mixing bowl.
  7. Add little water, say less than ¼ cup to the puree. Add rice rava and salt to it .
  8. Mix everything well.
  9. Allow the mixture to sit for 20 minutes so that rice rava soaks well in the mix.
  10. After the mentioned time, check the consistency of the batter. It should be little thicker than idli batter. To make this idli no fermentation is required.
  11. To steam idlis, heat water in a steamer. Grease idli moulds with ghee .
  12. Pour the batter into idli molds. Steam for 15 minutes on medium flame. Then lower the flame and cook for about 5 more minutes.
  13. Once it cool down a bit, check it with a tooth pick inserted, if it comes clean, its done.
  14. After its cooled down, remove from moulds using a spoon or knife.
  15. Sweet Jackfruit Idlis are ready to be served.
  16. Serve them hot or warm with a dollop of ghee, honey, pickle or spicey Garlic Coconut chutney.
